Helium is inert and the second lightest gas next to hydrogen. It is widely used as a carrier gas for analytical equipment, as a special welding gas and for coating metals. Helium is also applied to magnetically levitated trains, cryogenic research, balloons, airships, gas mixtures for deep-sea diving, laser gas and coolants for nuclear reactors and heat exchangers.
